3rd October 2011 Problems with Marriage Words

I had to do some revision of the Dutch Unit 1-3 Pearson Longman Text Book list. I don't know what it is about the word but I do not seem to be able to remember the word echtgenoot which means husband. I also had trouble remembering the word getrouwd - married because I get confused as to whether that is the word I want or huwelijk - marriage. The only word on the topic I seem to be able to remember is vrouw - wife. I did five lots of revision on this set of words.

I also did three lots of revision on the 1000 word list as well as harvesting the eleven words from the last list and planting seven more.

I've harvested 45 words so far this month.

And here is the third set for today. It's funny how being busy means I become super motivated and not only fit in the stuff I have to do but a lot of other stuff too. It's as if I have a switch which puts me into focused mode.

Just six words this time as the first word was supposed to be 'el radio' which is, apparently, Spanish.

2nd October 2011 Today's Words 2

I timed myself today. I can harvest the words, run through the old words about 5 times, and plant new words in 20 minutes. Since I don't need to do this at my best, I can probably fit in a couple of sessions a day which means I'm looking at closer to 400 words than 200 for the month.

deurwachter	porter	I think this is porter only in the sense of the person who attends the door since it's literally deur = door, wachter = watcher/watchman. My dictionary doesn't have it at all. Google translate gives doorkeeper.

Well, I'm not sure I'm going to keep down to 200 words since I seem incapable of restricting myself once I get going, plus clicking the wrong button and accidentally planting another seven seeds.

goed	right (correct)	Also seen in: Is alles goed? = Is everything alright? goed = alright Goede reis! = Have a good journey! Het is goed. = It's alright. goedkoop = cheap (see below)
help	help	The verb, which came up earlier, is helpen.
goedkoop	cheap	goed = good, koop = buy. Recall verkoop means sell.

de partij	the party, treat	I don't know in what sense it is supposed to mean treat, if it does indeed mean that at all.
